Good Effort Pat but .... but ya gotta hate Eight... Pats pen Save
Rab Smith

Some days at the Office or between the sticks - your best just aint good enough eh Pat ?

But it looked like you and lads in blue might just keep the shutters up, and maybe Dano or Reggie might find space to use pace and catch Cavy on the bounce.

Ant test big PatYour Penalty save was a cracker, and later as the thin blue line faltered, that was still a top stop to deny young Ant Hancock (left) on the gallop..

But it was like Custer and the Little Big Horn eventually and those nippy Indians were all wearing red shirts.

General McGarry tried to spread calm, but even he looked a bit laboured, and without skyscraper Tom Bekker, and captain Mike Abbott, and a couple of injuries sustained during the 90 minutes - Mosgiel was just outmanned and outclassed.

In contrast, Caversham showed strength in depth, and although Hancock and Rob Deeley still lug plaster casts around on their arms - is that a handicap system ? - it certainly did not slow them down. Although Robbie gets points for looking smarter.

Jackson shotAnd without carrying concrete, Tom Jackson and Harley Rodeka showed real atheticism - and nous, with intelligent running of the angles, and hard to imagine, but they both were probably outshone by Patrick Fleming who picked up Cavy's Man of the Match award.

Then there was Ant Hancock looking like a laterday Gerd Mueller, strong, stable and yet evasive, and always keen to drill a shot goalward.

Ant Sandwich

And for all that praise, Mosgiel still earned respectable ball possession, Luke Burgess had moments of magic, young Matt Brook put his body on the line, and the Day boys and Dano battled away.

But as gaffer McGarry said,' OK we were a couple of players short, but we gave the ball away too easily, and that makes it hard against a good side like Cavy.'

.....Day takes off..

Seamus cross.....Cav celebrate

Steve Fleming is rarely one to gush, but he seemed pretty happy with the squad's performance - and most of the squad had a run. ' All that is left now is the Draw,' he said, ' and we all know that can be as exciting as any cup-tie...'Tim Dalman header

Tucked in behind the favourites, Roslyn-Wakari kept Cup hopes alive with a 5-2 win over Northern Hearts, and where I come from, beating Hearts is always welcome.

In its third away Cup fixture, Roslyn hit attacking form early to rip into a 3-nil lead, thanks to goals from Tim Dalman and Tom Connor (2) in Timaru.

Tom ConnorThen as management were starting to relax, the Tims struck back to narrow the scoreline to 3-2 with thoughts of extra time and more nail biting.

But, Tim the Dalman showed that the game is all about 90 minutes, and struck twice in the closing minutes for a respectable 5-3 scoreline, and respite for TVG's cuticles.
